Modern Methods of Construction

The Housing Corporation is to encourage RSLs to cut back on the number of off-site manufacturing systems they use. They hope that the increase in both volume and predictable orders will drive down costs as at present off-site manufacturing, which is preferred by the Government, can be more expensive than traditional construction.

Although the Housing Corporation will not dictate to RSLs which system to use, they have sited that a discussion regarding off-site manufacturing systems would form part of the negotiations with RSLs applying for development partner status.

Housing Corporation Definition of MMC/OSM

Modern Methods of Construction is a broad category that embraces a variety of build approaches including Off-Site Manufacturing (OSM). Whereas all OSM may be regarded as falling within a generic MMC heading, not all MMC may be regarded as OSM.  The following are the range of MMC/OSM categories as defined by the Housing Corporation, which need to be indicated on ADP bids for funds.
